Online Car Insurance Company
If you go to almost any search engine and type in the phrase “car insurance”, you will find hundreds of thousands of website purporting to offer car insurance or offering to compare car insurance pries for you. How can you find the most reputable out of all of them?
First of all, if you go to the website of an online car insurance company that you have never heard of, or you go to an a website that compares a number of different quotes from different car insurance companies and you’ve never heard of any of the car insurance companies they’re quoting from, move on to a different website. Even when you are searching online and using websites to compare prices, you should still have at least heard of the some of the car insurance companies that are providing you insurance quotes. Even if the company doesn’t advertise, you should ask around and try to find out if any of your friends or family members have heard of them before sending in your first payment.
Second, before you commit to any single car insurance company, do your research. Look the company up online, search for customer reviews, see if they have a business rating anywhere, and try to find out if there are any complaints or lawsuits filed against them. If you cannot find anything—or if you have found out some information but want some more—call or email the car insurance company and ask them to send you more information in the mail. See if there is a packet or information on the company that can be sent to. When you receive it, it should be professionally made, and not just a stack of black-and-white copies that are stapled together by someone in a back office. Also, remember that most reputable companies have a physical address. Even if you cannot visit the address, the company should have some sort of a corporate office. If the insurance company only has a post office box and you can only contact the company via email or through a generic call center, then shop around for low prices with other car insurance companies.
Finally, if you find an online car insurance company that you have done some research on and like, even if you send them a payment to buy their insurance coverage, this does not mean that you are stuck with this insurance company forever. If you start to hear negative things about the company, if they are non-responsive when you have questions or problems, or if their customer service staff is routinely rude, take your business elsewhere.
One of the best things about being able to find so many online car insurance companies is that you can always find coverage from another insurance company and you can make the switch quickly and relatively easily since the Internet is much faster than going to an insurance agent’s office or mailing in your application through the regular mail. You can make an insurance change within a few days of making the decision that you no longer want to be affiliated with your current insurance company.
Regardless of where you find your car insurance, if you use an online car insurance company, make sure you’ve done all your homework. The last thing you want to do is end up in a position where you think you have car insurance, but the company isn’t actually there for you when you need them.
